Lothian MSP, Miles Briggs, has asked the Scottish Government about air quality monitors across schools in Scotland to monitor the levels of air pollution that school pupils are exposed to.

The question follows a report last week that claims that air pollution is the reason why childhood cancers have increased by a third in Scotland over the last 10 years.

Miles Briggs MSP has written to the City of Edinburgh Council to ask what consideration Edinburgh Council have given to air quality monitors across our schools in the capital.

Edinburgh and Glasgow have been highlighted as the two cities where young people are most at risk from air pollution.

Lothian MSP Miles Briggs said:

“This report clearly shows that air pollution in Edinburgh is having a serious impact on the health of our young people.

“The Scottish Conservatives have pledged to make air quality monitors available for all primary schools in Scotland to keep track of levels of pollution around our schools.

“I have a written to City of Edinburg Council to ask what considerations have been given to providing air quality monitors for all primary schools across the capital.”

The question during Topical Questions at the Scottish Parliament Tuesday 21st May 2019 can be found here- http://www.parliament.scot/parliamentarybusiness/report.aspx?r=12115&i=109544
