Miles Briggs MSP

Lothian Tory MSP Miles Briggs is today commending the Mental Health Foundation at the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 2017, for producing a new report on mental health and wellbeing. Miles has tabled a motion in the Parliament marking Mental Health Awareness Week and the new publication. The report “Surviving or Thriving” indicates only a small minority of people (13%) report living with high levels of good mental health while more than 4 in 10 people say they have experienced depression. Miles has tabled a Parliamentary motion on the subject in Parliament today.

Speaking today Miles, the Scottish Conservative Spokesman on Mental Health, said:

“The Mental Health Foundation’s new report is an important piece of research that is another indication of the scale of mental health challenges in society today. It also provides useful information on the health inequalities among those who suffer from mental ill health.

“The Scottish Government’s recently published Mental Health Strategy simply did not go far enough in setting out proposals that would lead to a transformative change in  mental health services in Scotland and I will continue to press Ministers to do more.

“I commend the Mental Health Foundation for again organising Mental Health Awareness Week which is a good opportunity to raise the profile of mental health issues and encourage debate and discussion”
