Miles Briggs, Lothian Tory MSP, has today commented on a new report from Which? and OpenSignal that suggests that 4G mobile customers are facing a variety of access and download speeds around the country. The study, published today, assessed 4G broadband availability and speeds in cities across the UK.
Speaking today Miles, who has consistently campaigned for better broadband services across Edinburgh and Lothian, raising the concerns of local constituents who still face broadband blackspots with the Scottish Government, said:
“ It is welcome news that Edinburgh is in the top 10 UK cities in terms of 4G availability at 77% and this reflects the significant investment in 4G made by the UK government and telecoms companies.
“ However, there is still room for improvement, especially in the speed of the 4G available in Edinburgh and I will continue to speak out for additional investment in broadband infrastructure and the need for Scotland and the UK to do better overall on 4G so we can truly compete with other countries globally.
“ It is vital that Edinburgh has the best possible mobile telecommunication systems so that we can attract new jobs and investment and additional tourists and visitors.”
