Miles Briggs, Scottish Conservative & Unionist MSP for Lothian, is raising concerns about a spike in motorcycle theft in Lothian with the Justice Secretary Michael Matheson and Police Scotland. Motorbike owners and enthusiasts have contacted Miles to flag up their frustration and anger at the spate of recent thefts.

Commenting today Miles Briggs said: “I have been contacted by a significant number of constituents who are motorcycle owners, including club representatives, who have expressed anger and alarm at what they tell me is a crime wave of thefts of motorbikes in Edinburgh and across Lothian more widely.

“It appears that a small group of offenders are behind these repeated thefts of bikes, some of whom are reoffending almost as soon as they are released after being charged with one theft.

“Some constituents have also voiced concerns about the potential impact on motorbike tourism in the area which is an important feature of the local economy. I hope the Justice Secretary and Police Scotland can offer reassurance to my constituents that this wave of thefts is being taken seriously.

“In the meantime, I would urge motorbike owners to take the maximum precautions they can in terms of securing their bikes and to report any attempted thefts or suspicious behaviour to Police Scotland without delay.”
