Miles Briggs MSP
Lothian Tory MSP Miles Briggs is calling for more Scottish bus companies to sign up to the RNIB’s Bus Charter. Miles visited the RNIB Scotland’s headquarters in Hillside in Edinburgh recently where he met with blind constituents who emphasised to him to the importance of making bus travel better for blind and partially sighted people. The charter sets out a range of suggested minimum standards such as bus drivers telling blind and partially sighted passengers which service they are on and what their destination is. Miles tabled a series of written Parliamentary questions on the subject which revealed only 4 Scottish bus companies have signed up to the charter so far- First, Stagecoach, Lothian Buses and McGill's. Speaking today Miles said: “ Blind and partially sighted constituents are clear that bus services are really important to them. “ RNIB’s Bus Charter sets out some of the practical steps bus operators can take to help blind people use bus services independently and get around their communities and further afield. “ I welcome the fact that four major bus companies, including Lothian Buses, have already signed up to the Charter and I would encourage more to do so.” The full Bus Charter can be found at https://www.rnib.org.uk/sites/default/files/RNIB%20Bus%20Charter.pdf
