Cllr Nick Cook

Boroughmuir High School

The new Boroughmuir High School – which was slated to open at the start of this year – will now not be opened for use by staff and pupils until August.

The revised opening date for the new 1165 capacity school next to the Union Canal at Fountainbridge means forthcoming exams will take place at the school’s current site at Viewforth, minimising disruption during this important period.

Commenting, Councillor Nick Cook said:

“A number of parents have raised concerns about potential roll number capacity at the new Boroughmuir and I will work with the school community to ensure that local children are properly accommodated.”

Midmar Paddock

Following previous attempts to facilitate development of the site, many residents continue to raise concerns regarding any potential future development of Midmar Paddock.

Councillor Nick Cook believes that Midmar Paddock should remain part of our valuable local green space offering and – as a local resident – appreciates its amenity value.

Seagull Issues

Each summer many residents of tenamental areas contact the Council regarding aggressive seagulls swooping on local residents. This is a subject that Councillor Mark McInnes has campaigned heavily on and following a motion by Councillor McInnes the Council has set up a working group to look at the situation.

Cllr Nick Cook commented: “This is an issue throughout the area but has been raised with me by residents in Bruntsfield, Merchiston, the Falcons and Balcarres Street. If elected in May I will continue to keep the pressure up on the Council.”
