Police Scotland’s Edinburgh Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Kenny MacDonald, has told Lothian Conservative MSP Miles Briggs that tackling housebreakings in the East of the city is amongst its highest priorities. The Chief Superintendent also states that the particular area from the Durhams to Coillesdene/Portobello is a key area of focus for Police Scotland following a spate of break ins over the last few weeks in the locality. Miles raised the concerns of constituents in this area who have been the victims of recent housebreaking.

Speaking today Miles said:

“I welcome the assurance from Police Scotland that tackling housebreakings is amongst the highest of its priorities."

“While it is a positive that the overall number of domestic housebreakings in North East Edinburgh has reduced by around a fifth compared with last year, particular localities, such as the area from the Durhams to Coillesdene have been targeted and subject to repeat crimes, as Police Scotland has recognised."

“I am pleased that Police Scotland has increased both hi-visibility and plain-clothed patrols in the area for deterrence and detection."

“I would urge all local residents to remain vigilant and not to hesitate to contact Police Scotland if they witness any suspicious behaviour in their community.”
