Lothian Tory MSP Miles Briggs has praised the organisers and staff of the Edinburgh International Film Festival in a Parliamentary motion tabled at Holyrood today. More than 53,000 people bought tickets for events at the festival this year, the highest number since it moved from its former slot in August in 2008.

Speaking today Miles said:

“I congratulate the organisers and hard-working staff of the EIFF for a highly successful year which attracted more film goers for the sixth year in succession.

“The EIFF attracts a large number of visitors to our city and makes a significant contribution to the local economy. It is a key part of Edinburgh’s internationally renowned and diverse festivals sector and I look forward to further box office growth at the EIFF in future years.”
