Sue Webber MSP criticises continued failure to bring NHS Lothian A&E waiting times under control

Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Sue Webber for the Lothian region says the SNP are still failing to give patients answers as to how waiting times will urgently be brought under control in NHS Lothian.

Sue Webber MSP believes patients in NHS Lothian are continuing to be failed by delays and inaction from SNP Health Secretary Humza Yousaf. Only 74.2% of patients across Scotland were treated within four hours of arriving at A&E, the fourth week in a row that waiting times plummeted to a record low. The SNP’s target is for 95% of patients to be seen at A&E within four hours.

In NHS Lothian only 74% of patients were seen within four hours of arriving at A&E. That was slightly better than last week, but still well short of the SNP’s 95% target. Sue Webber MSP says the SNP have only produced a flimsy NHS Recovery Plan which doesn’t provide new funding for A&E services.

Commenting, Scottish Conservative and Unionist MSP Sue Webber, said: “Patients in NHS Lothian are continuing to be let down by delays and inaction from SNP Health Secretary Humza Yousaf. They are facing completely unacceptable delays with every passing week at accident and emergency departments in NHS Lothian. There’s no end in sight.

“In the face of a crisis in our NHS, all we’ve seen from the SNP is a flimsy pamphlet that they’re trying to pass off as an NHS Recovery Plan. It delivers no new funding for A&E services. Our heroic frontline staff in NHS Lothian are overwhelmed and crying out for real leadership from the SNP-Green Government. Patients need urgent answers as to how the Health Secretary will get on top of this situation to avoid waiting times completely spiralling out of control.”
