The notorious Sheriffhall roundabout remains neglected by SNP ministers after more than fifteen years and millions of pounds on planning.
The Sheriffhall roundabout has cost Lothian residents countless hours in traffic and millions of pounds. A much-needed upgrade to this notorious junction has been discussed since 2008, but the SNP has made no tangible progress in this time despite spending over £6m on consultants. Under the SNP-Green Scottish Government the project totally stalled:
MSP for Lothian, Miles Briggs, has launched this petition to put renewed pressure on SNP Ministers to prioritise this key piece of infrastructure, which brings the Edinburgh Bypass to a standstill every rush hour. A fly-over solution proposed by Transport Scotland in 2018 has the potential to save the region time, money, and pollution by allowing Bypass traffic to avoid the roundabout altogether.
After successive delays caused by Green opposition and SNP complacency, it is time for the government to commit to a deadline and budget for this project before costs spiral out of control.
