Miles Briggs MSP

Miles Briggs, Lothian Tory MSP, is welcoming the news that two Lothian based charities will receive grants from the Big Lottery Fund’s Young Start programme. Miles has tabled a Parliamentary motion highlighting the awards which have been given to the Hibernian Community Foundation and Fast Forward.

Speaking today Miles said:

“ I am delighted that the Hibernian Community Foundation and Fast Forward have received substantial awards from Young Start.

“ The Hibernian Community Foundation does really valuable work with disadvantaged youngsters in our community and engages them through sport and helps them consider and apply for employment and training opportunities.

“ Fast Forward is an innovative provider of educational theatre which is based in Edinburgh but works across the country.

“ It is great to see young people in Lothian benefit from money which otherwise would be left lying in dormant bank and building society accounts.”

Title: Young Start Boost for Lothian Projects

Motion Text:

That the Parliament welcomes the news that two organisations based in Lothian, the Hibernian Community Foundation and Fast Forward, have received funding support from the Big Lottery Fund’s Young Start programme; understands that the funding for the foundation will allow it to work with young people in Edinburgh who are not in education, employment or training to help them move away from anti-social behaviour and to engage in positive opportunities in sport, employment or education, with local agencies offering workshops in CV writing and interview techniques; further understands that Fast Forward will use its grant to train young volunteers from youth theatre groups in youth health issues and forum-style theatre to produce and perform five new pieces of educational theatre, which will be performed to young audiences in community venues across the country; wishes both organisations every success in the work that they are undertaking, and considers that the Young Start programme, which distributes money from dormant bank accounts, is an important funding stream for youth groups across Lothian, Scotland and the UK.
