Miles Briggs, Lothian MSP and the Shadow Minister for Public & Mental Health, is welcoming the launch today of a new strategy and campaign from the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland’s (CHAS). The Reaching Every Family in Scotland strategy aims to ensure that every family in Scotland which has a child with a life-shortening condition can be supported by CHAS. Three children die each week in Scotland from a life-shortening condition; CHAS already cares for one in three of those families and wants to care for even more in future. The Keep the Joy Alive fundraising and awareness campaign has been designed by children whom CHAS cares for and features an eye catching fun CHAS alphabet. CHAS has its headquarters in Craiglockhart in Edinburgh. Miles has tabled a Parliamentary motion commending CHAS’ new strategy and campaign.

Speaking today Miles, who has consistently supported CHAS’ work and who earlier this year raised more than £2000 for the charity through a sponsored leg wax, said:

“I am delighted that CHAS has launched an ambitious new strategy that will mean many more families across Scotland will benefit from the world-class care and support it provides."

“I am also really impressed with the new Keep the Joy Alive campaign and the fantastic CHAS alphabet which has been designed by children CHAS cares for."

“I wish the strategy and campaign every success. I also want to pay tribute to all who work for and volunteer for CHAS, including many people in my Lothian region, who make such a difference for so many families each and every day.”

Title: Welcoming Children’s Hospices Across Scotland’s New Strategy and Campaign

Motion Text:

That the Parliament welcomes the launch of the new strategy from Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS), Reaching Every Family in Scotland, and its new campaign, Keep the Joy Alive; notes that the strategy sets out how CHAS aims to achieve its ambition of reaching every family who needs its care and is a response to the Children in Scotland Requiring Palliative Care (ChiSP) study from 2015; understands that the Keep the Joy Alive campaign is designed to increase awareness of CHAS and the income needed to care for the families it supports; is aware that the campaign has been created by the children CHAS cares for who have designed a fun alphabet that will form the basis for its new communication strategy; commends all who have been involved in developing the new strategy and campaign, and all who work for and volunteer with CHAS, and wishes the strategy and campaign every success as CHAS seeks to help every family in Scotland whose child has a life-shortening condition and who would benefit from the world-class care and support that it provides.
