Jeremy Balfour, Scottish Conservative MSP for Lothian, has called for action to ban mobile phones in primary schools to protect vulnerable youngers in our local communities.

Raising the issue in the Scottish Parliament yesterday, Jeremy said that recent research from the USA "showed that children aged between 8 and 11 years old are significantly more likely to be victims of cyber bullying if they own a mobile phone and take it to school.”

Another report from the London School of Economics shows that restricting access to mobile phones in schools results in an average improvement of 14.2% in test scores of low achievers.

Jeremy commented: “Given the double impact of reduced attainment levels in test results and the increased risk of cyber bullying, it seems time to review our outdated policy on mobile phone use and ban mobile phones from our local primary schools.”
