Cllr Callum Laidlaw selected as Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for Edinburgh Northern and Leith

The Edinburgh Conservative Association is pleased to announce that Cllr Callum Laidlaw has been selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist party candidate for the constituency of Edinburgh Northern and Leith for the 2021 Scottish Parliament elections.

Cllr Laidlaw, who represents Portobello Craigmillar ward on City of Edinburgh Council was selected by party members resident in the constituency at a meeting held prior to the current lockdown restrictions.

Elected to City of Edinburgh Council in 2017, Cllr Laidlaw is the Conservative group’s Education Spokesperson on the Council, sits on the city’s Licensing Board and is a Non-Executive Director of Transport for Edinburgh. He is also a Director of a corporate communications firm and has spent time working in London and internationally advising many multinational businesses.

In addition to successfully standing in the 2017 local government elections, Cllr Laidlaw stood in the 2019 General Election for the Edinburgh South West constituency and has stood in prior Scottish and General elections in Falkirk. Cllr Laidlaw now lives in the Edinburgh Northern and Leith constituency where he also grew up.

Speaking after his selection, Cllr Laidlaw said “I’m delighted to have been selected as the Scottish Parliamentary Candidate for my home constituency and am ready and willing to take the fight to the Nationalists. This diverse constituency has borne the brunt of the SNP’s relentless focus on independence with falling standards in its schools, insufficient GP provision, increasing anti-social behaviour and a failure to support its many small businesses.

I’m standing for parliament as I want Holyrood to focus on delivering results not referendums. Supporting our public services, allowing the growth of our economy and offering opportunity for all. This is the approach I have taken as a Councillor and now want to bring to bear as an MSP.”

Callum’s campaign will begin when restrictions ease and full details of planned activity will be shared by the Association. If you would like to get involved and help support Callum getting elected please get in touch.
