Dear Resident,

Since being elected as one of your Councillors for the Fountainbridge/Craiglockhart Ward, I have been actively trying to improve the local area. Some of my activity over the last 2 years has included:

  • Instigating a Pest Control initiative to deal with a rat problem around Moat Drive, Moat Street and Slateford Road
  • Raising requests for the Waste Team to empty overflowing bins.
  • Raising requests to clear up graffiti
  • Discussions with the Active Travel Team to improve the layout of the Slateford Road cycle lanes between Appin Terrace and Hutchison Crossway

Most recently, I had a Motion proposed at last Thursday’s Culture and Communities meeting that the Moat Drive Playpark be assessed for investment. I also addressed the Committee to emphasise the poor state it is in and the lack of maintenance the surrounding grass area received last summer when the grass was left to grow almost a foot tall, making it practically useless for children to play on.

I am delighted to say the Motion was passed unanimously and I have a commitment from the Parks Team that they will get someone in to thoroughly clean and wash the surface, and patch if possible, and to repaint all the equipment before reviewing to see if a full refurbishment is needed. Some of these things were raised by residents and because you know your area best, I want to hear from you about any other issues you would like me to deal with.

Yours sincerely,

Councillor Christopher Cowdy
